Mural should always
be cared for
I read with great interest the article in the ‘Home’ section of WHT on Sunday about restoring the mural on the Konawaena High School Gymnasium. It brought to mind a recent visit we did to Waikoloa High School to see the public art piece, “Labyrinth,” by Hans Ladislaus that is part of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Collection (https://www.publicartarchive.org/node/79170).
The mosaic artworks were done by elementary school students and the artist. We knew beforehand that the art work had been modified (for safety reasons?) and would not necessarily appear as originally created.
However, we were saddened to see some of the mosaic artwork was missing, had fallen apart, or was in need of repair. Is anything being done to keep this public treasure from deteriorating?
Hopefully, as in the Konawaena High School situation, the Hawaiian government has something in the works to remedy the labyrinth’s condition. If not, how about floating the idea of having each graduating class hold a fundraiser to support the artwork repairs? Or perhaps have the freshman class include caring for the labyrinth as part of their creative art curriculum?
Just some thoughts.

Insurance should
be there to help
Regarding the ‘Lloyd’s of lawsuits’ article in Thursday’s paper, it’s exactly what the Leavitt, Yamane and Soldner commercial states!
Insurance companies will do anything not to pay out! It is disappointing to think that my $1,000-plus home insurance’s annual premium that I have paid for several years may not pay out if/when the need arises.
I hope that day does not come. I hope the Haysmers get the help they deserve.

Sickened criminal was out
Suspected cop killer Justin Waiki had 37 arrests and 16 convictions, three felonies. We now have a grieving widow and devastated children; another officer who survived, by the grace of God, because this animal was free.
The system is effed!
People wonder why Trump was elected. Well, they are fed up. Anything but the status quo! The victim has no rights and the perpetrator has all the resources of the “system.”
God Bless the cops!
