State health officials on Friday reported 230 new cases of COVID-19 as the state’s total case count topped 6,000.
With the new cases, Hawaii’s total case count now stands at 6,072 since Feb. 28. The state’s 46th coronavirus-related death was also reported Friday on Oahu. No additional information was available.
Of the new cases, 209 were on Oahu, 13 were on Hawaii Island, six were on Maui and two were on Kauai, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 5,547 cases. Maui County has recorded 269 cases, Hawaii County 177 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Of the Hawaii residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 2,072 of those cases have since recovered and been released from isolation. Forty-one of the Big Island’s 177 known COVID-19 cases to date remained active Friday.
Statewide, 337 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including seven on Hawaii Island. According to the Hawaii County Civil Defense, four Big Islanders were hospitalized on Friday.
Of the 46 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 38 were on Oahu, seven were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
