State health officials on Sunday reported 248 new cases of COVID-19 as the state’s total case count reached 6,600.
Of the new cases, 228 were on Oahu, 12 were on Maui and eight were on Hawaii Island, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 6,031 cases. Maui County has recorded 290 cases, Hawaii County 200 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Of the Hawaii residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 2,143 of those cases have since recovered and been released from isolation. Fifty-nine of the Big Island’s 200 known COVID-19 cases to date remained active Friday.
Statewide, 396 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including seven on Hawaii Island. As of Sunday, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense, two patients remained hospitalized.
Of the 47 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 39 were on Oahu, seven were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
