State health officials reported 102 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the statewide total case count to 10,946.
Oahu reported 97 new cases, bringing the state’s most populous island’s case count to 9,879, while Hawaii Island reported four new cases, increasing the island’s total case count to 603 since Feb. 28, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. Meanwhile, the number of residents who have tested positive while out of the state rose to 28.
Maui County’s total held steady at 378 as did Kauai County’s at 58.
Of the known cases in Hawaii to date, some 6,841 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 209 of the known cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 667 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 27 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The center also reported three new coronavirus-related deaths among Oahu residents in their 70s; two were men and the other was a woman. Each had underlying health conditions and had been hospitalized.
Of the 103 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 90 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, three were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
The state said earlier this month it has yet to include the latest Hawaii Island deaths reported by Yukio Okutsu Veterans State Home’s Avalon Healthcare because it is awaiting medical records from the facility.
Hawaii County Civil Defense Wednesday reported another coronavirus-related death at Hilo Medical Center of a resident of Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. To date, 15 of the island’s 16 coronavirus-related deaths have occurred at the care facility.
