Hawaii Island reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to 677 since Feb. 28.
The five new cases were among 90 new cases reported across the state, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. Two additional deaths were also reported, bringing the statewide death toll to 124.
Oahu on Thursday reported 81 new cases, bringing the island’s total case count 10,627 while Maui County reported two new cases, bringing its total total to 371. Two residents also tested positive while out of state bringing that case count to 30. Kauai’s case count held steady at 57.
The two Oahu residents who died were both men with underlying medical conditions. One was in his 50s and the other in his 60, according to the center.
Of the known cases in Hawaii to date, some 6,514 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 185 of the known cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 779 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 37 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
Of the 124 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents, 99 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, 15 were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Neither, Hawaii County Civil Defense nor Avalon Healthcare, the state-contracted operator of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, reported new deaths Thursday. To date, 28 Hawaii Island residents have died from the novel coronavirus though the state has yet to confirm the last 13 deaths.
