As of noon Thursday, 3,265 of the 15,003 known cases were considered active, including 372 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
Statewide, 1,097 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 65 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
Hawaii recorded one additional COVID-19 death. A Hawaii island man, in the 70-79 year-old age group had underlying conditions and was in the hospital. His death brings the total count to 216 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the 216 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents, 168 were on Oahu, 16 were on Maui, 31 were on Hawaii Island and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
