WCA meeting to discuss COVID-19 and more
Waimea Community Association’s Virtual Town Meeting will bring together respected boots-on-the-ground medical experts and community leaders for a COVID-19 update and to answer community questions this evening at 5:30 p.m.
Leading off the virtual discussion will by Lt. Gov. Josh Green, followed by Christopher Russell, a physician’s assistant with West Hawaii Community Health Center, Dr. James Madison with Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital, and Dr. Scott Cassidy with Alii Health Center.
Also participating will be Kahu Billy Mitchell, Dr. Ron Ah Loy, Dr. Claren Kealoha-Beaudet with Kipuka O Ke Ola Native Hawaiian Health Clinic, and licensed family counselor Makela Bruno Kidani.
Also on the agenda will be Hawaii County Council members Heather Kimball (District 1) and Tim Richards (District 9), and Lt. Robert Pauole with Hawaii Police Department who is currently the acting Waimea police captain.
The meeting will be streamed “live” on the association’s Facebook page.

Waimea Middle School to hold virtual transition night
To start on the right foot by helping prepare students and families for the transition ahead, Waimea Middle School is inviting all Waimea families with fifth grade students to a virtual sixth grade Transition Night from 5 to 5:45 p.m. April 8. It is free and accessible via Google Meets.
The program will begin with Principal Janice English introducing the sixth grade teacher team and key staff including counseling, technology support and office personnel. They will briefly discuss the importance of a strong partnership between home and school, then review plans for the year ahead to keep everyone safe and progressing academically.
The presentation also will include a virtual tour of campus plus a drone flight out to Mala’ai School Garden and the school’s still new two-story, nine-classroom Keaoakea STEAM Learning Center. There will be time for questions – either “live” or families may call to schedule a follow-up meeting if preferred. In addition, in-person campus visits are welcome.
