The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count reached 2,632 with 11 new cases reported by state health officials on Saturday.
Statewide, 101 new cases were reported Saturday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 49 of those cases, Maui County 37 and Kauai reported one new case. Three residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, 31,270 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since the end of last February. The Big Island had a 1.3% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.5%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 123 cases, or an average of 8.8 cases per day. In the past 14 days, 49 new cases have been reported in Kailua-Kona and 32 in Hilo. Most other areas of the island are reporting less than 10 cases per day.
Statewide, 46 people were hospitalized Saturday, with seven hospitalized on the Big Island. To date, 2,405 people have required hospitalization, including 127 on the Big Island.
As of Saturday, 45,207 Big Island residents have completed their vaccine doses. That figure represents 29% of the island’s population. 71,154 or 45% of the population have received their initial dose. Statewide, 1,027,849 total vaccinations have been administered. This number reflects 34% of the state’s population initiating the vaccine and 23.4% completing the process.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state Saturday. Of the 474 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 370 were on Oahu, 46 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
