Five new COVID-19 cases reported Monday increased the Big Island’s total case count to 2,853.
Statewide, 34 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 23 of those cases on Oahu, six in Maui County and none on Kauai. Since the end of last February, 35,901 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 54 cases, or an average of 3.9 cases per day. The Kailua-Kona area reported the most cases at 12.
The Big Island Monday still had a 0.9% positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.1%, which dropped from 1.2% on Sunday.
Also Monday, a total of 38 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals with one reported on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Monday. Of the 496 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 384 were on Oahu, 54 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
