Traffic investigations prompt partial road closures

Two partial road closures will take place on Thursday in South Kohala while Hawaii Police Department personnel conduct investigations of two recent traffic collisions.

In both instances, one lane of traffic will be closed with officers directing alternating flow of traffic in the open lane.

The first closure will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. between Kawaihae Road and the entrance to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Queen Kaahumanu Highway. Officers will be further investigating a Jan. 9 vehicle versus pedestrian crash that left a 40-year-old woman dead.

The second closure will be from noon to 1 p.m on Mamalahoa Highway, between Puanuanu Place and Kekehau Street, in Waimea. Officers will be further investigating a traffic crash that critically injured a skateboarder on Dec. 15, 2021.
