HFS Federal Credit Union awarded some $25,000 in scholarships this year to Big Island students.
Over the past 10 years, the credit union has awarded more than $177,000 in scholarships to over 70 student members to assist with their college expenses. Many Big Island students are hard-working, talented, and goal-oriented with plans to give back to the
island community.
Each student selected this year will receive $2,500 to help fund their 2022-23 school year. Recipients are: Sean Kobayashi (Konawaena High School); Randy Jake Galzote (WaiakeaHigh School); Tevita Hala Latu (Waiakea High School); Ngirakederang Ueda (Waiakea High School); Kieran Maesaka (Kamehameha Schools Hawaii); Maya Oishi (Hilo High School); Maribel Agpaoa (Keaau High School); Amy Durham (University of Hawaii at Hilo); Jobe Leialoha (California Southern University); and Shayla Sayphone (Macalester College).
HFS FCU releases applications at the beginning of each year, offering scholarships for both graduating Big Island high school seniors pursuing a two or four-year degree, as well as current college students pursuing a two-year, four-year, or
graduate degree.
HFS FCU is the largest not-for-profit and member-owned financial institution on Hawaii Island. It was established by nine individuals in 1937.
