A high surf advisory has been posted for east-facing shores of the Big Island through early Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Wave heights of 6 to 10 feet are forecast through 6 a.m., forecasters said. The surf was generated by strong trade winds east of the Hawaiian Islands.
Forecasters categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning of strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
