Hurricane Delores strengthens

Hurricane Delores strengthened to a Category 4 storm circulating 130 mph winds Wednesday morning, before starting to weaken later in the day, the National Hurricane Center reports.

Delores was located 295 miles south of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico, packing 125 mph winds and moving toward the west-northwest at 6 mph as of Wednesday afternoon. Fluctuations in intensity are possible through Thursday, forecasters said. Weakening is forecast thereafter, and should be downgraded to a tropical storm Saturday.

Also being monitored Wednesday was Tropical Storm Enrique, located 1,500 miles east of the Big Island. The storm was packing 40 mph winds and moving toward the west-northwest at 8 mph. Additional weakening is forecast and the storm is expected to dissipate by the end of the weekend.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Pacific, no tropical cyclone formation is expected during the next five days.

Meanwhile in the Central North Pacific, forecasters are monitoring a weather system about 675 miles south of Hilo. Forecasters with the Honolulu-based Central Pacific Hurricane Center say there is about a 10 percent of the surface low becoming a tropical cyclone during the coming 48 hours.

They are also keeping tabs on the remnants of Tropical Storm Iune located 1,100 miles southwest of Honolulu. Forecasters said that while thunderstorms continue to develop around the system, environmental conditions are expected to prevent strengthening during the next couple of days.

Elsewhere in the Central North Pacific, no tropical cyclones are expected through Friday afternoon.

The Central North Pacific and Eastern Pacific hurricane seasons continue through Nov. 30.
