FOLK book sale Saturday

The Friends of the Libraries, Kona holds its next book sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai.

As always, volunteers are welcome and book donations are accepted at the library. FOLK is also seeking volunteers to assist one Saturday per month for the book sale. The help is needed 1-2:30 p.m.

Books are sold daily in the lobby.

FOLK annual meeting coming up

The Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK) holds is annual meeting Tuesday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai.

The 10-11 a.m. meeting is for all FOLK members in good standing to conduct any business that may be introduced.

The proposed slate of 2018 officers are Pamela Wang, president; Shirley David, vice president; Arne Werchick, secretary; and Barbara Isley, treasurer.

2018 board members are Mardee Richardson, membership; Ken Guerra, ways and means; Bev Stehley, activities; Joyce Kimball, publicity; Suzanne Dmytrenko, programs; Lynn Waterhouse, science programs; and Fred Hornbruch, at-large.

FOLK Book Club meets

Friends of the Libraries, Kona Book Club meets at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai.

This month’s selection is “Double-Edged Sword” by Alexander Rosenstein. The book is a political thriller set in the last decade where disillusioned KGB agent Oleg Medvedev uses his skills to solve the mysteries of a high-profile murder and foils a plot to stop democratic reform.

Rosenstein will be in attendance.

The book club next meets in February to discuss “The Nightengale” by Kristion Hannah.

Kona Stories nonfiction book club to gather

Kona Stories hosts a nonfiction book club discussing “The Undoing Project” by Michael Lewis on Tuesday.

“The Undoing Project” is a story about the workings of the human mind explored through the personalities of two fascinating individuals so fundamentally different from each other that they seem unlikely friends or colleagues. In the process they may well have changed, for good, mankind’s view of its own mind.
