Police locate suspect accused of kidnapping
Big Island police have located a 24-year-old man wanted for allegedly kidnapping a 27-year-old woman early Saturday. The woman has also been located.
Keahi Sale was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. in South Kohala, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Police have also located the woman who was reportedly being held against her will, Chelsea Waltjen. No further information was available on the woman’s condition.
Police said Sale kidnapped the woman early Saturday morning. Sale was also reportedly in possession of a handgun and was wanted for numerous outstanding warrants.
Keaau structure fire under investigation
Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Saturday afternoon structure fire in Keaau.
Responding to the 5:23 p.m. call, Hawaii County Fire Department personnel found the 16-by-10-foot cabin-style structure fully engulfed in flames, its walls completely burned away and the roof almost on the ground.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 5:50 p.m., according to the department. No one was in the unpermitted structure on Hopue Road at the time of the fire.
The department estimated the loss at $16,000.
