Heavy rain continues Monday evening in the North and South Kona districts, forecasters with the National Weather Service report. A flood advisory for Hawaii Island has been extended until 10:15 p.m. Monday.
At 7:12 p.m., radar showed heavy rain near Kealakekua, according to forecasters, who also noted the Keauhou, Holualoa and Captain Cook areas in the advisory. The area of heavy rain was moving south-southeast around 10 mph. Forecasters said the heavy rainfall and brief thunderstorms will likely continue for the next few hours.
Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
