Petrill named chief financial officer at HPA
Dan Petrill has been named chief financial officer at Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Headmaster Lindsay Barnes made the announcement.
Petrill who is the school’s controller, will step into his new role at the school Sept. 1. He replaces Robert McKendry who recently was named HPA’s head of school, effective July 1, 2015. McKendry will transition to his head of school-elect position Sept. 1.
Petrill joined HPA in 2010. He has a wide range of accounting experience on Hawaii Island, including controller positions at Hawaiian Abalone Farms and MacFarms of Hawaii. He previously was chief financial officer and co-owner of Hamakua Macadamia Nut Co.

King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel general manager Jak Hu has created a unique partnership with Hawaii Island United Way. The Hoola Ohana: Building A Healthy Community Program is inspired by Hotels That Care, a program available in many mainland states. Guests are given the opportunity to add a nominal fee to their bill that is then donated to Hawaii Island United Way.

Asset protection strategies seminar

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will host a free educational seminar on asset protection strategies to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at its Kaloko facility.
The seminar will be presented by estate planning attorney Ethan Okura of Okura &Associates.
The seminar will cover topics that include: how to protect your family from lawsuits, divorce, and other threats; learn the difference between inside and outside liabilities; learn the difference between corporations, LLCs and liability business entities; and Hawaii’s new asset protection trust law.
