Police charge man for credit card fraud

Hawaii Island police have charged the second of four persons wanted for fraudulent use of a credit card.

At 10:15 a.m. Friday, Colvin Gaspar, 22, of Kailua-Kona was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, second-degree theft, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance, unauthorized entry of a dwelling, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $61,250. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Gaspar was arrested in Kailua-Kona at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. He was one of four people who had been sought for using a credit card after it was stolen from a car on Kuakini Highway on July 23, police said.

On July 25, Gaspar fled from police in a car that was later reported stolen. The car has since been recovered. The day of his arrest, Gaspar entered a house without permission to hide from the police. After officers located him inside and arrested him, he was found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Two other people are still wanted in connection with the credit card fraud investigation. Luke Kaniaupia, 21, of Kailua-Kona is described as 5-foot-6-inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes. Leilani Parent, 26, of Kailua-Kona is described as 5-foot-5-inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, and having brown hair and brown eyes.

Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe.
