Julio restrengthened to a hurricane late Tuesday as it makes its way across the Central North Pacific some 795 miles north-northwest of Kailua-Kona, Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasters say.
Julio, as of 11 a.m. Wednesday, was packing maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, with higher gusts, and traveling northwest at 7 mph, forecasters said. The storm is expected to gradually weaken and return to a strong tropical storm by the evening. Additional weakening is forecast on Friday as the storm makes a turn toward the northeast.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles.
