Kauai has record-breaking heat wave

LIHUE — Kauai has been on a hot streak recently.

The Garden Island reports the high temperature recorded at the airport broke a record five out of the seven days starting Oct. 10,

The latest came on Thursday, when the mercury topped out at 88 degrees. That broke the previous record of 87 degrees set in 1981.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu says the heat wave was the result of warm ocean temperatures.
