Plant discharges partially treated wastewater

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Health says 5,000 gallons of partially treated waste water were discharged from the Sand Island wastewater treatment plant into Honolulu Harbor.

The department says the discharged was caused by heavy rain flowing into a manhole connected to a clarifier odor system.

The department advises the public to stay out of water adjacent to two Keehi Lagoon boat ramps and Mokauea Island.

Warning signs for swimming and diving were scheduled to be posted.
