Marvin L. Goldberger, a former president of Caltech and a noted physicist, died Wednesday. He was 92.
Caltech said Goldberger died of cancer in the La Jolla area of San Diego, Calif. Goldberger was Caltech’s president from 1978 to 1987. During that time, Goldberger helped develop the first 10-meter telescope at the Keck Observatory atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii. It is one of the largest optical telescopes in the world.
