A South Kona man has pleaded not guilty to an array of charges filed after police located him in a stolen pickup truck in Keauhou last month.
Isaac K. Abrojena, 27, on Wednesday entered not guilty pleas to unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, fraudulent use of license plates, four firearms offenses, second-degree promoting a detrimental drug and two counts each of third-degree promoting a dangerous drug and possessing illegal drug paraphernalia before 3rd Circuit Court Chief Judge Ronald Ibarra. Ibarra ordered Abrojena to stand trial on April 28, 2015.
Abrojena, a Captain Cook resident, was arrested Nov. 14 after Hawaii Police Department officers found him in a stolen pickup truck at the end of King Kamehameha III Road in Keauhou. Officers ran a check on the license plate of a 2004 Ford Ranger in the vicinity and learned the plate was associated with a different type of vehicle.
According to police, the truck had been reported stolen from a home on Sea Breeze Parkway in Ocean View on Oct. 27. Further investigation led to the recovery from the truck of a sawed-off shotgun with ammunition, marijuana and drug paraphernalia — including paraphernalia associated with the use of crystal methamphetamine.
