A fire that engulfed a thin metal frame structure, a forklift, and two maintenance carts around 2 p.m. Tuesday at a Kona golf course resulted in a $70,000 loss in equipment.
The Hawaii County Fire Department responded to a call at 2:07 p.m. about a fire at 72-4083 Hawaii Belt Road where they found a 30-by-50-foot thin metal frame structure with a canvas covering engulfed in flames, along with grass cutting equipment, a forklift, two maintenance carts and fertilizer.
According to the report, the fire was starting to impinge on an above-ground 500-gallon gasoline storage tank when officials arrived on scene.
The fire was under control by 2:30 p.m. and out at 2:45 p.m., according to the report.
Capt. Lyle Loyola with the fire department did not know the cause of the fire by press time.
