The public will have a chance to weigh in on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposal for cleanup of unexploded ordnance in the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area.
A public meeting on the Army’s proposed alternatives for four sites will be held Wednesday, July 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the Waimea Elementary School Cafeteria. The public will then have until August 17 to submit written comments before the Corp makes a final decision for each site — Area N, Area R, Area S and Sector 16B.
Used for live-fire and training during the WW II era, the maneuver area was the largest encampment on the island. Thousands of pounds of unexploded ordnance have already been removed over the years, but more remains.
