The University Center at Palamanui and the University of Hawaii at Manoa Shidler College of Business will host a free informational meeting to discuss the Distance Learning Executive Master of Business Administration and the Masters of Human Resource Management programs offered by Shidler.
The meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kanu o ka Aina Learning Ohana in the Halau Hoolako Building in the Oluolu room, 64-1043 Hiiaka St. in Waimea. Reserve a space by visiting shidler.hawaii.edu/info-session or contacting Toni Mingo at 956-5774 or akruse@hawaii.edu.
The 22-month Distance Learning Executive MBA program is intended for professionals living on the neighbor islands and for military personnel on Oahu. In addition, the Executive Master of Business Administration offers an optional health care management track. The 48-credit program offers a five-day residential weekend and 16 Saturday classes at UH-Manoa. The program consists of 21 core and elective online courses concluding with a capstone course.
Information will also be shared about the Masters of Human Resource Management program, which is a 16-month, 30-credit graduate program delivered through videoconferencing.

Saturday book sale benefits libraries
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold its next book sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15, on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. Proceeds from sales help support the needs of the Kona libraries, with funding that includes educational and entertainment programs, community summer reading programs, visiting authors, magazine subscriptions, CDs, DVDs and new book purchases. This is a half price clearance sale except for specifically tagged items.
FOLK volunteers are at the library Tuesday and Thursday mornings working in the loading dock area and accepting donations. Volunteers are welcome. Call 322-0077 for more information.
IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center has a new phone number
Taxpayers in need of service at the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in Honolulu have a new number to call to schedule an appointment. Before calling, they should first see if their answer is available at irs.gov.
Taxpayers requiring face-to-face assistance should call 844-545-5640 to schedule an appointment at the IRS Tax Assistance Centers in Honolulu.
The IRS moved to an appointment-only service at 44 sites during the 2015 filing season as part of an ongoing effort to eliminate lines and reduce frustration for taxpayers and for IRS employees wanting to assist them. The agency tested various methods of scheduling an appointment.
