HONOLULU (AP) — A woman charged with second-degree attempted murder for attacking another woman with her car has been acquitted due to mental illness.
Hawaii News Now reports (http://bit.ly/1fK86s1 ) 31-year-old Jill Hansen was found not responsible after a trial which involved only testimony from three mental health experts. All three agreed Hansen suffered from multiple symptoms including voices, paranoia, and grandiose delusions and wasn’t capable of understanding what she was doing was wrong.
Hansen will be sent to a state hospital until she is considered safe for release.
Prosecutors say Hansen tried to kill a 73-year-old woman in a Waikiki apartment parking garage by striking her with her car.
Police say she hit Elizabeth Conklin once and tried a second time but couldn’t reach Conklin because she was wedged under a parked vehicle.
