Construction of 9-foot-wide asphalt concrete shoulders on both sides of the Waikoloa Road, between its intersections with Highway 190 and Queen Kaahumanu Highway, has resumed.
The Hawaii County Department of Public Works resumed work Friday. The road work is scheduled to continue from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for the next two to three months, weather permitting.
The project involves grading, building the base with gravel and then paving the shoulder approximately one mile at a time. Crews began preparing the shoulders earlier this month.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution because heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone. Alternating single lane closures will be in effect during the construction period.
