KAILUA, Oahu (AP) — Authorities say a mother and her infant are recovering after being swept away by flash flood waters along Maunawili Falls Trail on Oahu.
Honolulu firefighters dispatched to the scene Monday afternoon arrived to find the pair had been rescued by hikers.
Firefighters say the mother and the baby were part of a family group visiting from California that had been hiking in hazardous weather conditions. The mother and child became separated from the group and were swept downstream by a flash flood.
Other hikers on the trail were able to pull the mother and baby from the stream.
The extent of their injuries is unknown, but a fire official says they are lucky they were not seriously hurt.
