A high surf advisory has been posted for west- and south-facing shores of the Big Island through Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service said a long period Tasman swell from a strong low last weekend will bring 5- to 8-foot waves to the island’s Kona and southern coasts until 6 a.m. Sunday. Surf is expected to peak Saturday.
The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning of strong breaking waves, shore break and strong long shore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous.
