Perkins takes fourth in world cake competition

Bryson Perkins, a Kailua-Kona native, went head to head against the world’s best cake artists in the first-ever Cake Designers World Championship held Oct. 26-27 in Milan. Perkins is a master cake artist and creative director of Triolo’s Bakery based in New Bedford, New Hampshire,

Perkins was selected as the United States competitor in May. He was coached by fellow master cake artist Lisa Mansour of NY Cake.

Sixteen teams participated in the Cake Olympics. The program included one live competition cake, one public display cake, and three tasting cakes, which were also assembled live. The competitors had four hours to complete the from-scratch tasting cake and another four hours to complete the live cake challenge.

Perkins made the top five placement, walking away with the No. 4 ranking in the world of cake artists.

Other countries competing included France, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Tunisia, Serbia, Norway, Hungary, Valenzuela, Sri Lanka, Spain and Sweden.
