Hawaiian Airlines on Monday announced plans to begin daily nonstop service between Narita International Airport (NRT) and Honolulu International Airport starting July 22, 2016. Narita marks the airline’s 11th international destination and its fourth destination in Japan.
The new Narita route will complement its existing daily service to Tokyo Haneda Airport. Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO, said more than 800,000 visitors have flown between Haneda and Honolulu since the daily service’s launch in November 2010.
The flight will depart Honolulu at 3:30 p.m. daily. The first return flight will depart July 23 from Narita at 9 p.m., according to the airline. The Honolulu-Narita flights will utilize the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which seats 294 passengers.
George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, said Japan is Hawaii’s largest international market with arrivals from the market making up 18 percent of total arrivals to the state in 2014. The new flight could contribute $130 million in visitor spending and $14.7 million in state tax revenue.
