HONOLULU (AP) — Former Rep. Colleen Hanabusa says her win in the Democratic U.S. House primary is bittersweet. She says it’s amazing to receive so much support since she began her campaign in June to return to her old seat.
Hanabusa is running to fill the seat left vacant by U.S. Rep. Mark Takai, who died in July. She previously held the congressional seat for four years, but she gave it up to run unsuccessfully for Senate in 2014.
Hanabusa says people remember and have confidence in the job she’s done in the past.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard says she’s grateful that Democrats want her to return to Washington. She says she wants to tackle homelessness and economic challenges that trouble residents in high-cost Hawaii.
