KAILUA-KONA — A high surf advisory for south-facing shores of the Big Island now remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
A long-period south-southwest swell fueling surf the past couple days along the island’s Kona Coast, as well as southern, northern and eastern shores, was expected to gradually decline Wednesday, however, a reinforcing above normal south-southwest swell is set to arrive Thursday afternoon, according to the Honolulu-based National Weather Service.
Wave heights of 5 to 8 feet are forecast. Elevated water levels may also impact south-facing coastal sections because of King Tides, forecasters cautioned.
