KAILUA-KONA — National Hurricane Center forecasters continue to monitor an area of disturbed weather in the Eastern Pacific.
The Miami-based forecasters said Thursday that the broad area of low pressure is still expected to develop this weekend as it tracks west, west-northwest parallel to the coast of Mexico. As of Thursday morning, the system was located several hundred miles off the Gulf of Tehuantepec and was producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
It’s got just a 10 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours and a 30 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within five days.
Meanwhile, no tropical cyclone formation is forecast through Saturday morning in the Central Pacific, which is where Hawaii is located, forecasters with the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu said.
