Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau NHP accepting YCC applications
Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park is accepting applications for its summer Youth Conservation Corps program.
The program provides gainful employment and an educational experience in the conservation of our natural and historical heritage. Workers will participate in conservation and preservation related projects park-wide and work with all park divisions.
This year’s program will run six weeks from June 11 to July 20. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18. Enrollees in the program work 40 hours per week and earn $10.10 per hour.
Applications are due by Thursday. They may be obtained at the park’s Visitor Center or Administration Building.

Mobile summer lunch
program announced
Kona Pacific Public Charter School, along with program partner Hawaii Island Youth Corps, will once again be serving lunch to children up to 18 years old this summer through the Summer Food Service Program. The free meals will be served at 12 sites in North and South Kona starting Monday.
This program is Hawaii’s first and only mobile summer lunch program, and has served more than 22,000 lunches since 2015, the first year of the program. It is also sponsored by the Big Island Chocolate Festival, the Hawaii Office of Child Nutrition Programs and the Walmart Foundation, in addition to other community partners.
Meals will be provided to all children under age 18 without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. The Summer Food Service Program runs Monday through July 27. Lunch will not be served on June 11, Kamehameha Day, and July 4, Independence Day.
