Voice of Democracy award
On Saturday, the Voice of Democracy award ceremony was held at Kona VFW Post 12122.
Makua Lani Christian School students Caitlyn Phillips, Kulani Paikuli-Campbell and Whitney O’Halloran were the top winners, and received $125 for first place, $100 for second and $75 for third, respectively. Phillips won for the essay titled “Why My Vote Matters.”
Phillips will go Honolulu to compete at the state level. Top state prize is $1,000 and a chance to attend nationals with their $30,000 scholarship.
