Andrew Boniface Afong of Kona, 76, died Nov. 6, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 7, 1942, in Honolulu, he was a greeter at Makalapua Cinemas.

Celebration of Life to be held 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at South Kona Assembly of God. Potluck to follow.

Andrew is survived by his spouse, Elizabeth “Sharon” Afong; sons, Walter Afong of Kailua-Kona, Darren Afong of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Jamie Montano of Arizona, Tammy Afong of Kailua-Kona. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rosalia Agliam

Rosalia “Rose” Agliam, 89, of Kohala, died Nov. 9, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 18, 1929, in Kohala, she was a housekeeper at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, and Royal Waikoloa. She also worked as a cover seed field laborer and later as a lab tech for the Kohala Sugar Company.

Services to be held Dec. 15 at Hawi Sacred Heart Church. Visitation 8-10 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m. and grave site burial to follow.

Rosalia is survived by daughter, Monalisa (Moses) Coito of San Diego; sons Douglas (Marilyn) Agliam of Honolulu and Reggie (Lolita) Agliam of Hilo; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

Albina Amaral

Albina Amaral, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 30, 2018. Born Aug. 26, 1923 in Rhode Island, she worked as a hotel housekeeper.

She is survived by sons, Albert (Michelle) Amaral of Kailua-Kona, Alipio Amaral of Bakersfield, California, and Tony Amaral of Oakland, California; daughters, Bina Amaral of St. Louis, Missouri, Carmen Amaral of Kailua-Kona; sister Maria Eugenia Morgado of San Jose, California; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi on Dec. 19 with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Hawi County Cemetery.

Masamori Sunahara

Masamori “Masa” Sunahara, 93, of Papaikou, died Sept. 7, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Ninole, and lived in Hakalau then Papaikou for many years. He was a heavy equipment operator training supervisor with the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., a member of the Hilo Coast United Church of Christ, Papaikou Senior Softball Team and the Papaikou Kumiai.

Friends may call 2:30-4 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by his son, Reed Sunahara of Morgantown, W. Va.; daughters, Joan (Warren) Chong of Kona and Marcia (Reid) Lee of Austin, Texas; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces &nephews.

Kendrick Andrade

Kendrick E. Andrade, 65, of Hilo, died Nov. 9 at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born March 12, 1953, on Oahu, he was a retired mechanic.

Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Dec. 22, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Celebration of life at 10 a.m., Casual attire. Angel Salgado

Angel Briones Salgado, 94, of Paauilo, died Dec. 1, 2018, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Sagay, Negros, Occidental, Philippines, he was a retired truck/trolley driver and golf attendant, and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, ILWU Pension Club, Paauilo Kumiai and the Visayans of Hamakua Club.

Friends may call 8–9:30 a.m. Saturday (December 22, 2018) at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, Hawaii; funeral mass at 10. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park. Family request casual attire and flowers are welcome.

Masao Kobayashi

Masao “Kobe” Kobayashi, 99, of Kalaoa, Papaikou, died Dec. 1, 2018 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalaoa, he was a retired mechanic/car salesman for the former Hilo Motors and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Double 9 Golf Club and Kalaoa Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by daughters, Donna Chang and Cory (Myles) Watanabe; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Tadashi Imaino

Tadashi Imaino, 91, of Hilo, died Nov. 18, 2018, at home. Born March 19, 1927, in Hilo, he was a retired carpenter foreman for the state Department of Transportation, had worked at Jas. W. Glover, was a U.S. Air Force and Army World War II veteran, a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hoyukai Softball League, Kaumana 1 Mile Kumiai and was an avid throw-net fisherman.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Michael Imaino of Hilo; daughters, Terry (Calvin J. Fukuhara) Imaino of Kurtistown, Dr. Lei (Trent Hata) Imaino-Hata of Hilo; brothers, George Imaino of Renton, Wash., Yoshi Imaino of Kaneohe, Oahu, Richard Imaino of Kailua, Oahu; sister, Violet (Raymond) Mimaki of Hawaii Kai, Oahu; granddaughter, Tori Jane Hata; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Douglas Anderson, 84, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 10, 2018, at the North Dakota Veterans Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Aaron Bandy

Aaron David Bandy, 82, of Kurtistown, died Dec. 5, 2018 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born July 13, 1936, in Francis, Okla., he was a retired high school teacher in San Jose, Calif.

Malcom Chung

Malcom “Mel” Kawaakoa Kam Sung Chung, Sr., of Hilo, died Dec. 1, 2018 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a truck driver for Hawaiian Linen and Edwin DeLuz Trucking.

A celebration of life will take place at noon Feb. 16, 2019 at Puhi Bay, Hilo.

Ruth Kraft

Ruth Loomis Kraft, 89, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 24, 2018 at her Kona residence. Born March 5, 1929, in

Cleveland, Ohio, she moved to Oahu in 1952.

Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years William H. Kraft.

Survived by son, Robert Orland Kraft (Elizabeth) of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Renee Helen Kraft of Kailua-Kona; two grandsons.
