KAILUA-KONA — Daylight Mind Coffee Company closed the doors at two of its West Hawaii locations this week.

The coffee house/restaurant previously had three locations in West Hawaii: the signature restaurant and roastery at Waterfront Row that opened 2013; the Queens’ MarketPlace location that opened in 2015 and a bakery in Lanihau Center established in 2017.

The Lanihau bakery closed its doors in June while the Waterfront Row and Queens’ MarketPlace locations shut down Monday afternoon.

Employees said they were told at the close of business Monday of the company’s demise.

Daylight Mind LLC is a multi-investor privately held company headed by CEO Colin Finn. Attempts to reach Finn were unsuccessful as of press time Wednesday.

The Waterfront Row location will reopen today under the name Papa Kona Restaurant and Cafe. Initial hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

The new proprietor Derek Proudian is a venture capitalist and owner of Papa Kona Coffee.

Director of Restaurant Operations Lian Nazara said the new cafe will host events and catering as well as continuing to operate the roastery, restaurant and cafe.

Nazara said the new restaurant is staffed with employees from Daylight Mind who lost their job earlier this week.
