Incorrect versions of the Bannister and Rosario obituaries ran due to errors by their service providers. The correct versions are below.


Hatsue Nishimura

Hatsue Nishimura, 95, of Hilo, died Nov. 27, 2019, in the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in July 26, 1924, in Honolulu, she was retired from the State of Hawaii as a cafeteria worker at Kalanianaole Elementary and Intermediate School, a member of the Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple and Fujinkai.

Private services held. No flowers. No koden. She is survived by sons, Richard (Carolyn) Nishimura of Hilo, Ronald (Grace) Nishimura of Hilo and Glenn (Katherine West) Nishimura of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughters, Jennie (Robert) Hashiro of Kahului and Edna (Edward) Watanabe of Hawi; sisters, Lillian Kiilau of Honolulu and Violet Kai of Honolulu; two sisters-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Samuel Bannister, Sr.

Samuel Liwaimu Bannister, Sr., 83, of Waimea, died Nov. 26, 2019, at his residence in Waimea. Born on July 9, 1936, in Waialua, he retired from the Department of Water Supply and also from the United States Marine Corps after 20 years of service as a gunnery sergeant, which he served during the Vietnam War.

Friends may call 8-9 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea. Funeral service is from 9-10 a.m. Burial to follow at noon at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona with a military ceremony across from Kua Bay.

He is survived by sister, Esther Pahoa of Killeen, Texas; children, Samuel L. Bannister, Jr., Andrew T. Bannister, Carole L. Nickel and John J. Bannister of Waimea, Sina Kelau, Dale Price, Terry B. Price and Lee Price of Utah; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marvalee Banagan

Marvalee Kawehionalani Banagan, 74, of Kealakekua, died Oct. 24, 2019, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Jan. 30, 1945, in Honolulu, she was a private caregiver and member of Calvary Community Church.

She is survived by son, Adrian (Kehaulani) Kukua of Makawao, Maui; brother, Arthur Kukua, Jr. of Las Vegas; sisters, Jeanette (George) Pereira of Kalaoa, Ardis Kukua of Kealakekua, Maryann Kukua of Utah; granddaughter; great-grandson, both of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gayle Rosario

Gayle Naomi Rosario, 60, of Keaau, died Nov. 30, 2019. Born in Hilo in May of 1959, she worked for Kadota Liquor in Hilo.

She is survived by partner, Hercules Fontes; mom, Kinue Ito; daughter, Dayna Rosario; brother, Glenn Ito; sister, Audrey Jyo; granddaughter; grandsons; great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
