State health officials reported 207 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, the highest single-day record to date.
Approximately 114 of the cases were the result of delayed reporting over the weekend, a result of private clinical laboratory reporting issues, according to the COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Last week saw day-after-day of new record numbers, with most of the new infections being diagnosed in Honolulu, according to the center. On Monday, 198 of the 207 cases were from Oahu, with seven reported on Maui and two on Hawaii Island.
The new cases brings the state’s total case count to 2,448.
Oahu has reported 2,083 while Maui County has recorded 176 cases, Hawaii County 117 and Kauai County 47. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Of the Hawaii residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,294 of those cases have since recovered and been released from isolation. That includes all of the 115 cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 199 patients have required hospitalization, including four on Hawaii Island.
Of the 26 deaths reported among Hawaii residents since Feb. 28, 19 were on Oahu, six were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
“We are once again, as we have from the beginning of this crisis, asking every resident of Hawaii to take this threat with the utmost seriousness. Life, as we knew it, pre-COVID-19, cannot return to normal until we again flatten the infection curve. It takes everyone doing their part by following the simple and now-common steps: wear your mask, physically distance, wash your hands frequently and, perhaps most important, stay home if sick. With everyone’s kokua, we can get back to where we were and enjoy all the good things life in Hawaii has to offer,” said Health Director Bruce Anderson.
