State health officials on Tuesday reported 215 new cases of COVID-19 as Hawaii’s total case count neared 7,000.
Of Tuesday’s new cases, 201 were on Oahu, 11 were on Hawaii Island and three were on Maui, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
The new cases bring the state’s case count to 6,984 since Feb. 28. Some 4,748 of those cases are still considered active, including 74 of the known cases on the Big Island.
To date, Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 6,382 cases. Maui County has recorded 303 cases, Hawaii County 220 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Statewide, 419 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including eight on Hawaii Island, according to the center. Hawaii County Civil Defense said 10 were admitted as of Tuesday morning.
