State health officials reported 114 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the statewide tally to 10,700.
Oahu reported 96 new cases, bringing the state’s most populous island’s case count to 9,559, while Hawaii Island reported 16 new cases bringing its total to 587. Maui County saw two new cases, increasing the county’s total to 373. Kauai County’s tally held steady at 58 as did the number of resident who have tested positive while out of the state at 26.
With the new cases, the total count statewide increased to 10,700 since Feb. 28, when the state began testing for the novel coronavirus. Of the known cases in Hawaii to date, some 6,685 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 201 of the known cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 636 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 24 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
Of the 99 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 86 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, three were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
The state said late last week it has yet to include the last seven Hawaii Island deaths reported by Yukio Okutsu Veterans State Home’s Avalon Healthcare, as it is awaiting medical records from the facility. The facility reported no new deaths on Saturday.
As of Saturday, 66 residents and 27 employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Four residents were hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center while 35 others were being cared for at the home’s COVID-19 designated area. A total of 17 residents and five employees have recovered.
