George Henry Paul Jr., 90, of Hilo, died Oct. 25, 2020 at his residence. Born Aug. 30, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was a retired mechanical engineer for Heyl &Patterson, a member of Alu Like, Inc. – Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna Program, amateur craftsman, tutor at Kaumana Elementary School and Kamehameha Elementary School and a former member of the R.S.V.P. of Hilo.

Friends may call at noon Nov. 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 1 p.m. celebration of life. Aloha attire is requested. Flowers welcomed.

He is survived by wife, Myra Aina-Paul of Hilo; daughters, Charmaigne (Vernon) Costley of Ogden, Utah, Cheryle (Brian) O’Brien of Kailua, Oahu and Cyd (Garry) Hoffeld of Hilo; sons, Craig (Missy) Makanui of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Charlton (Michele) Makanui of Hilo and Charles Liwai (Mia) Makanui of Seattle; brother, Donald (Judy) Paul of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

John Kanui

John Kanui, 65, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 28, 2020, in Granite Bay, California. Born Aug. 14, 1955, in Hilo, he was a retired Sergeant First Class for the Hawaii Army National Guard and a retired supervisor for the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Highways Maintenance Division, worked for the Hilo Seaside Hotel and Kona Seaside Hotel and member Ka Hoku Ao Malamalama in Keaukaha where he was ordained by Kahu Leifi Hao 4th, January 2009.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Nov. 17 at the mortuary for visitation; graveside committal service and burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Flowers welcomed.

He is survived by son, Shaun (Kristy) Kanui of Peoria, Arizona; daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Farrell of Lithia, Florida; brothers, Edwin (Tiki) Kanui of Hilo and William Kanui III of Oregon; sisters, Lucille Morris and Margaret Hill, both of Oregon; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends (hanai family).
