The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased by four Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to date to 2,173.
The new Big Island cases were among 64 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 41 new cases while Maui County reported 17 and Kauai none. Two residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
The Big Island on Tuesday had a 1% test positivity rate, below the statewide rate of 2.1%.
According to Hawaii County Executive Assistant Steve Bader, a large coffee farm in Kona that employs more than 100 had 17 people test positive on Monday and one more on Tuesday. He said the event is being classified as “travel-related” because one employee apparently visited California recently.
“We’re keeping an eye on it. There’s been testing every few days … for the number of people there, (the Department of Health) feel like the situation is under control,” Bader told the County Council Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations and Economic Development on Tuesday.
Statewide, to date, there have been 26,007 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Statewide, 74 people were hospitalized Tuesday, including two on the Big Island. To date, 2,086 people have required hospitalization, including 112 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Tuesday by the state. Of the 410 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 327 were on Oahu, 26 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
The Big Island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.4% on Tuesday, above the statewide rate of 1.6%.
Hawaii County Civil Defense said Tuesday that the Big Island has reported no coronavirus-related deaths in the last five weeks.
