Chanelle Molina is headed to the WNBA.
The former Konawaena basketball standout has signed a training camp contract with the Indiana Fever, the team announced Monday.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work, dedication and patience to get here. The WNBA has always been the goal, therefore I accepted and fell in love with the process to get here! There are not many Filipino women in the WNBA, so this is for the progress of women’s basketball all over the world,” Molina wrote on Instagram.
“I will celebrate this success and accomplishment, but it’s back to helping my team overseas win in the morning. Thank you Indiana Fever for this opportunity. See you all soon!”
The details of the contract were not disclosed, per team policy.
Molina was a 2016 graduate of Konawaena, and was ranked a five-star recruit before she signed to play basketball at Washington State. Konawaena won two HHSAA Division I girls basketball state championships while Molina was a Wildcat, and she was a three-time Hawaii Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
She averaged 12.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during her collegiate career at Washington State. Molina led the Cougars in assists (125), minutes played (1,070), 3-point field goals made (59) and rebounds (183) as a senior during the 2019-20 season.
Molina is the only player in Washington State women’s basketball history to collect over 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists.
After four years in Pullman, where her sisters Cherilyn and Celena still play, Molina went undrafted in the 2020 WNBA Draft. This past year she has played basketball overseas in Sweden with the Norrkoping Dolphins.
With the Dolphins, Molina has averaged 18.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 34.1 minutes per game.
“Chanelle recorded an excellent career at Washington State in the very challenging Pac-12 Conference. She is a skilled and versatile guard who will bring high energy and competitiveness to our training camp,” Fever head coach Marianne Stanley said in a press release. “She is having a great year overseas in Sweden this season because of how she has continued to improve.”
