Leroy Carriero Santos, 72, of Hilo, died Feb. 18, 2021. Born April 2, 1948, on Oahu, he was mechanic and a member of Koa Puna.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by daughter, Regina Lievan; son, Paul Tisalona; sisters Barbra Santos and Betty Aragon; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Norman Nakano

Norman Nakano, 72, of Kea’au, died Feb. 17, 2021. Born in Hilo, he was a retired technician at Hawaiian Telcom.

Private services held. The family requests no flowers or monetary offerings.

He is survived by wife, Betsy Nakano of Hilo; son, Roman (Jenny) Nakano, of Kea’au; daughters, Stephanie Nakano of Austin, Texas, Michelle (Royden) Chow of Kea’au and Lisa (Skee) Saplan of Hilo; brothers, Ivan (Linda) Nakano of Hilo and Leslie (Bernie) Nakano of Kea’au; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandsons; and aunties, nephews and nieces.

Edwin Macomber

Edwin “Uncle Eddie” Dean Macomber, 80, of Keaau, died Feb. 10, 2021, in Hilo. Born in 1940 in Kahalu‘u Mauka, he worked as a heavy equipment operator and warehouse manager for for Keaau Service Station in Kurtistown, BMS construction in Kailua-Kona and HT&T Co. in Hilo, was a certified CDL trainer and driver guide for Slim Holt Hawaii and an equipment handler for the Hawaii National Guard.

Services will be held at a later date. The family requests no flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

He is survived by wife, Patricia Macomber of Kea‘au; daughter, Cheryl (Dean) Kaahanui of Waimea; sons, Steven (Louana) Macomber of Kailua-Kona, Patrick Macomber of Bellingham, Washington, and Darby Hauanio Sr. of Hilo; brother, Bobby (Thelma) Macomber of Kailua-Kona; sister, Daisy Spaulding of Hilo; former wife Shirley Acol of Kurtistown; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yasue Kawasaki

Yasue Kawasaki, 86, of Hilo, died Feb. 15, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Pepeekeo, she retired as a veterans employment counselor for the Hawaii State Employment Office.

Private services will be held at a later date. The family requests no flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by son, Kevin (Suzanne) Kawasaki of Williamsburg, Virginia; daughter, Kathy (Guy Saruwatari) Kawasaki of Hilo; brothers, Rodney (Marcelina) Miyamoto of Pahoa and Calvin (Dorothy) Miyamoto of Anaheim, California; four grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Aiko Medeiros

Aiko “Grace” Nirei Medeiros, 94, formerly of Papaikou, died Feb. 13, 2021, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born June 2, 1926, in Hilo, she was a retired kitchen helper for Café 100 in Hilo and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Papaikou Pensioners Club.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Private graveside service to follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

She is survived by sons, Virgil (Lorraine) Medeiros of Hilo and Kenneth (Maureen) Medeiros of Houston, Texas; daughter, Audrey (Dennis) Balucan of Holualoa; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Edward Kawewehi

Edward “Eddie” William Kahuena Kawewehi, 74, of Holualoa, died Feb. 10, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 24, 1946, in Honolulu, he was a cook at the former Kona Surf and Keauhou Beach hotels, and a member of the ILWU Retirement Club.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Lehua Kawewehi of Holualoa; stepdaughters, Sandy (Brian) Komo of Holualoa and Kathy (Steven) Kuakahela of Kona Palisades; hanai sons, Eddie Boy (Denise) Lovell-Wong of Captain Cook and Conrad (Davi) Chong of Holualoa; hanai daughter, Noelani Johnson and sister, Blossom Russell, both of Kealakehe; brothers, Kaipo (Puanani) Kawewehi of Hilo and Jackson Kawewehi of Spokane, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roy Taylor Jr.

Roy Wesley Taylor Jr., 62, of Mountain View, died Feb. 20, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 23, 1958, in Kaneohe, Oahu, he was retired from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

He is survived by wife, Christina Vidinha Taylor of Mountain View; children, Ikaika Aukai of Honolulu, Kekoa Aukai of Colorado, Joy (Henry) Aukai of Mountain View, Kurt Vidinha of Lawai, Kauai, Shanoa (Logan) Chamberlin of Pahoa, and Krystyn Vidinha-Taylor of Mountain View; brothers, Therman Taylor of Indianapolis, and Scott Taylor of California; sisters, Vira Von Scott of Pepeekeo, Cindy (Henry) Keliikuli Grace of Kaneohe, Oahu, Lisa (Moana) Heimuli of Kahaluu, Oahu, and Keokilani Keliikuli Teixeira of Kurtistown; parents, Susann (George) Keliikuli of Kaneohe, Oahu; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shana Stuart

Shana Marie Stuart, 53, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 24, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 25, 1967, in San Francisco, she was office manager for Hawaii Titanium Rings and a bartender at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

She is survived by husband, Christopher Stuart; son; Dean; daughter, Téa; mother, Cheryl Levitz; stepfather, Dan Levitz, all of Kailua-Kona; father Robert Varni, of Irvine, California; and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Rodney Yamura

Rodney Yamura, 56, of Kapaau, died Feb. 13, 2021, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born July 16, 1964, in Honolulu, he was a delivery driver for Car Quest Auto Parts, former Mauna Kea Golf Course section tender, and fry-cook/bartender for Kohala Inn Restaurant.
