Gov. David Ige on Monday released Capital Improvement Project funds totaling $500,000 to finance the construction of centralized administrative offices at Kohala Hospital.
“This funding is extremely timely, as during COVID-19 we have had to adjust our procedures to accommodate social distancing,” said Gino Amar, administrator of Kohala Hospital. “This will allow us to provide more administrative staff areas, as we continue to address the new normal.”
The additional administrative and business office will create a more comfortable, efficient working environment for Kohala Hospital’s staff, allowing them to better serve patients.
“I am very glad that this project has received the necessary funding to move forward with construction,” says Rep. David Tarnas (North and South Kohala and North Kona). “Support for our health care facilities and providers is of the utmost importance, and I look forward to this important project progressing.”
Kohala Hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic remains open to Kapaau community members who are 65 years of age and older. The clinic is administering the Pfizer vaccine.
Tuesday community clinics are currently scheduled at Kohala Hospital for March 23, April 6, April 13 and April 27. Clinic hours are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The clinic is strictly limited to Kohala residents who are 65 years of age and older. As a closed POD – or Point of Dispensing — the hospital’s clinic is by appointment only. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.

Kohala Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital with acute and long-term care services and a 24-hour emergency room that supports the North Kohala community. It is a member of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, an agency of the state of Hawaii established in 1996.
