State health officials reported 17 new COVID-19 cases on the Big Island Thursday, bringing Hawaii County’s total case tally to 3,398.
Statewide, 166 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 91 of those cases on Oahu, 22 in Maui County and 14 on Kauai. Twenty-two cases were among residents diagnosed out of state.
Since the end of last February, 38,819 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
The Big Island had a 3.2% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 2.6% positivity rate on Thursday. Over the last 14 days, 128 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 12.4 cases per day.
One new coronavirus-related death was reported on Thursday on the Big Island among a man in his 80s who had been hospitalized with underlying health conditions. Of the 522 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 404 were on Oahu, 57 were on Maui, 56 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
Also Thursday, Hawaii Community Correctional Center reported one new positive COVID-19 test result among a staffer at the Hilo jail. No new inmate cases were received leaving the number of active cases at five.
