Pretrial defendants being released with little or no bail due to COVID concerns

WALTJEN

This Hawaii Tribune-Herald story, published in Sunday’s edition, erroneously linked the Richard Ganigan multiple temporary restraining order violations to domestic violence based on a conversation last week with County Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen. Waltjen said Monday Ganigan’s cases stem from a dispute with a neighbor, not domestic violence. The Hawaii Tribune-Herald apologizes to Mr. Ganigan and his family. The same story also incorrectly stated Jordan Kaneshiro’s bail was reduced by Judge Peter Kubota to $10,000 and he posted a reduced bail. Kaneshiro posted the entire $120,000 bail and the $10,000 bail amount was actually additional bail on a bench warrant to revoke Kaneshiro’s bail. The Tribune-Herald also apologizes to Judge Kubota.
